The publication ethics of Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran are developed with reference to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and principles of publication ethics and best practice.
The publication of peer-reviewed articles in Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran contributes to the development of a coherent and respected body of scholarly knowledge. The journal therefore expects all parties involved in the publication process to uphold the principles of academic integrity, transparency, fairness, confidentiality, originality, accountability, and respect for intellectual property.
As the publisher of Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran, Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Sadra takes its responsibilities for the integrity of the publication process seriously. The publisher supports the editorial independence of the journal and is committed to ensuring that advertising, reprints, sponsorship, or other commercial revenue does not influence or determine editorial decisions.
Authorship and Contributorship
Authorship should accurately reflect substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, interpretation, drafting, or critical revision of the work. Individuals who have made substantial contributions should be appropriately acknowledged or listed as authors, while individuals who have not made a substantive contribution should not be listed as authors.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate co-authors are included, that all authors have approved the final version of the manuscript, and that all authors have agreed to its submission for publication.
Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran encourages authors to provide a clear description of individual contributions where appropriate. Authorship should not be granted to individuals who have not made a substantive contribution, and individuals who have made a substantial contribution should not be inappropriately excluded.
International Co-authorship and Verification
Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran recognizes the importance of genuine international collaboration in scholarly research and publication. To maintain the integrity of authorship and prevent the unauthorized inclusion of individuals as co-authors, all authors involved in international co-authorship must confirm their awareness and consent to the submission.
The following provisions apply:
- All listed authors must have personally agreed to be included as co-authors and must have made a substantive contribution to the manuscript in accordance with the journal's authorship policy.
- International collaboration must be genuine and authorized by all participating authors. The inclusion of an author affiliated with an institution outside Indonesia, by itself, does not constitute sufficient evidence of genuine international collaboration.
- Manuscripts involving authors affiliated with institutions in different countries must be accompanied by an International Co-authorship Declaration and Verification Form, completed and signed by all authors.
- The completed form must be submitted as a supporting document (Additional File) together with the manuscript during the submission process.
- The journal may verify the authorship and/or international collaboration by contacting any listed author through their institutional or other verified email address when deemed necessary.
- If an author is found to have been listed without their knowledge or consent, the journal may take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics policies.
- Any attempt to include an individual as an author without their knowledge, consent, or substantive contribution is considered inconsistent with the journal's authorship and publication ethics policies.
- The journal may request additional reasonable information or documentation when necessary to verify the authenticity of the stated collaboration.
International Co-authorship Declaration and Verification Form
Authors involved in international co-authorship are required to complete and sign the International Co-authorship Declaration and Verification Form.
Download the form: International Co-authorship Declaration and Verification Form.
The completed and signed form must be uploaded as a supporting document (Additional File) during manuscript submission. The form serves as supporting documentation confirming that all listed authors are aware of, consent to, and participate in the submitted manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to cite datasets and other research materials used in their work, whether created by the authors or obtained from other sources. Where appropriate, supplementary materials and data deposits may be provided to support the transparency and reproducibility of published research.
Ethical Oversight
Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran is committed to ensuring that research published in the journal is conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards.
Where relevant, authors are expected to comply with appropriate ethical requirements concerning research involving human participants, vulnerable populations, animals, personal or confidential information, and other sensitive research materials.
Where ethical approval, informed consent, or consent for publication is required, authors should provide appropriate information concerning such approval or consent in the manuscript.
The journal may request additional information or documentation concerning research ethics when necessary. Where serious ethical concerns arise, the journal may seek clarification from the authors and, where appropriate, their affiliated institution or other competent body.
Allegations of Research Misconduct
Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal does not tolerate research misconduct or other violations of academic and publication integrity.
Research misconduct and academic integrity violations may include, but are not limited to:
- Fabrication, namely the making up of research data and/or information;
- Falsification, namely the manipulation or engineering of research data and/or information;
- Plagiarism, including the inappropriate use of another person's work or ideas without proper acknowledgment and inappropriate reuse of one's own previously published work without proper acknowledgment;
- Unauthorized authorship, including adding individuals who have not made a substantive contribution, excluding individuals who have made a substantive contribution, or presenting work prepared by another person as one's own without appropriate contribution;
- Citation manipulation;
- Multiple or duplicate submission or publication;
- Undisclosed or inappropriate conflicts of interest; and
- Other violations of academic or publication integrity in accordance with applicable regulations.
When an allegation or indication of misconduct arises, Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran follows a transparent and documented procedure proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the allegation. The procedure may include:
- Preliminary examination of the available evidence;
- Clarification from the author(s) and/or other relevant parties;
- Further investigation where necessary;
- Editorial assessment and decision based on the available evidence; and
- Appropriate corrective or editorial action, including rejection, withdrawal, correction, expression of concern, or retraction, as appropriate.
For a submitted manuscript, a confirmed or sufficiently substantiated violation may result in rejection or withdrawal.
For a published article, the journal may issue a correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue and its effect on the reliability of the published record.
Where appropriate, the journal may seek information or cooperation from the author's affiliated institution or another relevant body. The journal's editorial assessment does not replace the authority of an institution or competent authority to conduct a formal investigation of research misconduct.
The corresponding author may be asked to coordinate the response on behalf of the authors. However, the journal may communicate directly with individual authors or other relevant parties when necessary.
All allegations will be handled fairly and, where appropriate, confidentially. Editorial decisions will be based on evidence and academic considerations and will not be influenced by an author's institutional affiliation, financial status, or other non-academic considerations.
Intellectual Property
Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran respects the intellectual property rights of authors and third parties.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions do not infringe copyright or other intellectual property rights. Authors must obtain appropriate permission for the use of copyrighted materials where permission is required and must properly acknowledge the sources of materials used in their work.
The journal publishes articles under the applicable publishing and licensing arrangements stated on its website. Copyright and licensing arrangements are specified in the journal's copyright and licensing policy.
If a credible claim of copyright or other intellectual property infringement is brought to the journal's attention, the journal will assess the claim and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable law and publication ethics principles.
Correcting the Record
Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran is committed to preserving the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the scholarly record. Published articles constitute part of the permanent scholarly record and will not ordinarily be removed or altered after publication.
When an error, academic integrity concern, or other issue affecting a published article is identified, the journal will assess the matter and determine the appropriate corrective action. Depending on the circumstances, this may include an Erratum, Corrigendum, Addendum, Expression of Concern, or Retraction.
Authors of published articles are expected to promptly notify the journal if they identify a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work and to cooperate with the editorial team in correcting the scholarly record.
1. Errata
An Erratum is a correction of an important error introduced during the production or publication process that affects the publication record, scientific integrity, or understanding of the work.
Minor typographical or grammatical errors that do not affect the meaning or reliability of the article ordinarily do not require an erratum.
2. Corrigenda
A Corrigendum is a correction of an important error originating from the author(s) that affects the accuracy, understanding, or reliability of the published work but does not require retraction.
The editorial team will determine whether a corrigendum is necessary based on the significance of the error and its impact on the published record.
3. Addenda
An Addendum may be published when additional information is necessary to clarify or supplement a published article without contradicting the original publication.
Addenda are published only when the additional information is considered important to the readers' understanding of the work.
4. Retractions
A published article may be retracted when there is sufficient evidence that its data, findings, or conclusions are no longer reliable, or when a serious violation of academic or publication integrity has occurred.
Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to, plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, serious authorship misconduct, multiple or duplicate publication, serious undisclosed conflicts of interest, or substantial errors that invalidate the reliability of the article.
Before making a retraction decision, the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board may conduct a preliminary assessment, seek clarification from the author(s) and relevant parties, and undertake further investigation where necessary. The decision will be based on the available evidence and the seriousness of the issue.
When an article is retracted, Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran will publish a clear and openly accessible Retraction Notice explaining the article concerned, the reason for the retraction, the date of the action, and the party responsible for the decision, where appropriate.
The Retraction Notice will be electronically linked to the original article.
A retracted article will not be removed from the journal website or digital archive. The original article will remain available and will be clearly marked RETRACTED on its article page and full-text document. The article's DOI and relevant metadata will also be updated, where applicable, to indicate its retracted status.
Retraction is intended to correct and protect the integrity of the scholarly record and does not necessarily imply misconduct by every author of the article.
5. Expression of Concern
When substantial concerns arise regarding the reliability or integrity of a published article, but sufficient evidence is not yet available to make a final determination, the Editor-in-Chief may publish an Expression of Concern.
An Expression of Concern may be considered when an investigation is ongoing, evidence remains inconclusive, or an appropriate institutional investigation has not yet been completed.
The notice will explain the reason for the concern and will be linked to the original article. If subsequent evidence establishes that the article is unreliable or affected by serious misconduct, the journal may subsequently issue a correction or retraction, as appropriate.
6. Publishing Corrections and Retractions
Corrections, retractions, and other post-publication notices will be clearly identified and linked to the original publication.
Where appropriate, such notices will:
- Clearly identify the type of editorial action;
- Identify and cite the original publication;
- Explain the reason for the correction, concern, or retraction;
- Provide sufficient information for readers to understand the nature and significance of the action;
- Be electronically linked to the original article; and
- Contain appropriate bibliographic and metadata information to facilitate indexing and linking by relevant scholarly databases and services.
The journal will take reasonable steps to ensure that the status of a corrected, retracted, or otherwise updated article is accurately reflected in its DOI and relevant bibliographic metadata, where applicable.
7. CrossMark®
Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran uses CrossMark to help readers identify the current status of published content. The CrossMark service provides readers with access to relevant publication record information and, where applicable, information concerning corrections, retractions, or other updates to the published record.
Publication Decisions
The editors of Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran are responsible for deciding which manuscripts should be published. Editorial decisions are based primarily on the academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness, and contribution of the manuscript, as well as the results of the peer-review process.
Editors may be guided by the policies of the Editorial Board and are also bound by applicable legal and ethical requirements concerning copyright, plagiarism, academic integrity, and other relevant matters.
1. Plagiarism Screening
Authors are expected to submit original manuscripts that are free from plagiarism and other forms of academic malpractice. Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran conducts similarity screening as part of its editorial assessment before publication.
The results of similarity screening are evaluated by the editorial team and are not treated as conclusive evidence of plagiarism solely on the basis of a percentage score.
2. Fair Play
Manuscripts are evaluated on their intellectual and academic merits without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
3. Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not disclose information about a manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Editors must not use unpublished information or ideas disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the express written consent of the author.
Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest and should ensure that editorial decisions are made independently and fairly.
Duties of Reviewers
1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making informed editorial decisions and may help authors improve the quality and clarity of their manuscripts.
2. Promptness
Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or who cannot complete the review within the required time should promptly notify the editors and decline the review.
3. Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not disclose, reproduce, or discuss the manuscript with others except as authorized by the editor.
4. Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively and constructively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their evaluations clearly and provide supporting arguments.
5. Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. They should also inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and other published work of which they have personal knowledge.
6. Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Information and ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal advantage.
Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, personal, institutional, or other relationships with the authors, institutions, or organizations related to the manuscript.
7. Review Process
Every manuscript submitted to Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran is independently reviewed by at least two reviewers through a double-blind peer-review process. Editorial decisions concerning publication, revision, or rejection are based on the reviewers' reports and the editors' assessment. Where necessary, the editor may seek an additional review before making a final decision.
Duties of Editors
1. Fair Play
Editors evaluate manuscripts based on their intellectual and academic merits without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
2. Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and disclose information only to those involved in the editorial and publication process, as appropriate.
3. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists and should ensure that editorial decisions are made fairly and independently.
4. Publication Decisions
Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on the academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness, contribution, and peer-review results of manuscripts.
Editors may consult other editors or reviewers when necessary and must comply with applicable legal and ethical requirements.
5. Review of Manuscripts
Editors should ensure that manuscripts are initially assessed for originality, relevance, and academic quality and that peer review is conducted fairly and appropriately.
Editors should select reviewers with appropriate expertise and should avoid reviewers who have conflicts of interest with the authors or the research.
The journal's peer-review process and the parts of the journal subject to peer review should be clearly communicated to authors.
Duties of Authors
1. Reporting Standards
Authors of original research should provide an accurate account of the work conducted and an objective discussion of its significance. Research data and information must be represented accurately.
Authors must not fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or selectively misrepresent research data, information, methods, or findings.
A manuscript should contain sufficient detail and appropriate references to allow the work to be understood and, where applicable, reproduced. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
2. Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are original and that any use of the work, ideas, or words of others is appropriately cited or quoted.
Authors must not present another person's work or ideas as their own and must appropriately acknowledge previously published work.
3. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not submit or publish substantially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication.
Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
