FOCUS

Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Sadra, Jakarta. The journal provides a scholarly platform for critical, analytical, and methodologically grounded studies in Qur’anic studies, engaging both classical and contemporary discourses from diverse intellectual traditions. The journal aims to contribute to theoretical, methodological, and practical discussions in Qur’anic studies through original research, literature-based studies, and critical book reviews.

SCOPE

Tanzil welcomes high-quality manuscripts addressing, but not limited to:

Qur’anic Studies and Exegesis (Tafsir);
Methodologies of Qur’an and Tafsir Studies;
Classical and Contemporary Qur’anic Interpretation;
Tafsir Nusantara (Archipelagic Qur’anic Interpretation);
Living Qur’an Studies;
Qur’anic Hermeneutics;
The Qur’an and Social, Cultural, and Ethical Issues;
The Qur’an and Science;
Critical studies of figures and intellectual trends in Qur’anic studies; and
Thematic (Maudhu‘i) Studies of the Qur’an.

Interdisciplinary contributions are welcome, provided that the discussion remains firmly grounded in Qur’anic studies and employs rigorous scholarly methods. of the manuscript is substantially grounded in philosophical or mystical perspectives.

Manuscripts Co-authored by Indonesian and International Institutional Affiliations: IDR 750,000

This policy does not apply if the international collaborator is affiliated with the editorial board or serves as a Tanzil reviewer.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Manuscripts must follow the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), 18th Edition, Author-Date system. Page numbers are required when referring to or quoting specific passages, e.g., (Abdulwaly 2021, 30). Footnotes are not used for bibliographical citations.
Manuscripts must strictly follow the official Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran Template.
Manuscripts must be written in standard American English (US English).
Manuscripts must contain 15–25 pages, excluding References.
Abstracts must be provided in English and Indonesian, with 200–250 words each.
The title must be written in English, must not exceed 20 words, and must clearly indicate a focus on Qur’anic Studies and/or Tafsir.
A maximum of five authors may be listed for each manuscript.
At least 80% of all references must be scholarly journal articles, including a minimum of 30 journal articles published within 2018–2027 for manuscripts submitted to 2027 issues.
Authors are strongly encouraged to use Zotero, Mendeley, or another reference-management application.
Manuscripts involving authors affiliated with institutions in different countries must include a signed International Co-authorship Declaration and Verification Form, uploaded as an Additional File during submission.

Announcement on the Adoption of Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) 18th Edition

To ensure consistency with the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran will update its citation and reference style requirements.

Beginning with Volume 9, Number 1 (October 2026), the journal will transition from the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition (CMS 17), using the Notes and Bibliography citation system, to the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition (CMS 18), using the Author–Date citation system. This update also includes several revisions to the journal's citation and reference formatting guidelines.

Authors intending to submit manuscripts for Volume 9, Number 1 (October 2026) and subsequent issues are kindly requested to prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the updated Author Guidelines.

Announcement of Article Processing Charge (APC) Policy Update

Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran implements the following Article Processing Charge (APC) policy, effective from Volume 8, Number 2 (April 2026):

Authors with Indonesian Institutional Affiliation: IDR 800,000

Authors with Non-Indonesian (International) Institutional Affiliation: Free (USD 0.00)

Manuscripts Co-authored by Indonesian and International Institutional Affiliations: IDR 600,000

The APC is charged only for manuscripts that successfully pass the editorial screening and double-blind peer-review process and are officially accepted for publication.

The APC does not include English proofreading or translation services, which remain the responsibility of the authors. Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran does not provide translation services. Authors are strongly encouraged to use professional or certified English editing services to ensure the academic quality of the final manuscript.

Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran does not offer fast-track publication. All editorial and review processes are conducted transparently and in accordance with standard scholarly publishing procedures.

A Letter of Acceptance (LoA) will be issued only after the manuscript has successfully passed the peer review and revision stages and has been declared suitable for publication by the editorial board.

The Article Processing Charge (APC) is applied to support the sustainability and continuous improvement of Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran. The APC is used to cover costs related to the management and maintenance of the journal’s electronic publishing system, DOI registration, Crossref membership, and editorial and journal management services, including peer-review management, copyediting, layout editing, and editorial oversight.

In addition, the APC supports journal operational expenses, limited print production, and the development of facilities and infrastructure that enhance the quality, integrity, and reliability of the publication process.

Latest Accreditation Result of Tanzil

Based on the Decree of the Director General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Number 295/C/C3/KPT/2026, dated January 2, 2026, concerning the Accreditation Ranking of Scientific Journals for the 2025 Period II, Tanzil: Jurnal Studi Al-Quran has been upgraded from SINTA 5 to SINTA 3, effective from Volume 7 Number 2 (2025) through Volume 12 Number 1 (2030).
